Happy New Year dear followers! As you've noticed, December craziness and a long Christmas holiday has taken it's toll on The Scandinavialist.. But not to worry fellow Scandimaniacs, I am back on track again!

New Year means new opportunities, new goals and lots of new discoveries! What I have learnt so far, since starting up The Scandinavialist in September, is that despite Scandinavia's limitations both in area and in population, the mass of designer talents is immense(!) and new designers emerge from all corners of the region, so I cannot wait to see what 2015 will bring!

To kick-off the new year I would like to share a bit of design inspiration from my very own part of Scandinavia, Norway (such a patriot yes, yes..) Since many of you might have noticed, Denmark and Sweden are really leading the Scandi-design race, but something is stirring in Norway as well. There's been a boom of Norwegian designers in the past few years, finally putting Norway as a design nation back on the map again, and the talented and awe-inspiring designers I am presenting today is a young duo from the oh-so cultural and creative city of Bergen: Meet Vera Kleppe and Åshild Kyte, two young women with what I would diagnose as 'chronic curiosity' and together they form design studio VERA & KYTE

If you ask someone to define Scandinavian Design, usually people would say something like; nature, wood, white, pure, monochrome, ethereal and so on and so on.. But there are, like in all cases, exceptions. And VERA & KYTE is the exception. As apposed to the stereotype, VERA & KYTE steps away from the all natural and monochrome and instead embraces the whole spectrum of the colour palette in an array of materials.

Almost as rebels agains the norm they present eye opening designs, that still plays on a simplistic and functional style, yet isn't your usual, obvious Scandi.. and I absolutely love it! There is something strangely captivating by the way they use bold colour to accentuate the contours of their design and how they juxtapose various geometry up against each other, which results in a fascinating symbiosis of shapes; Sharp edges and soft curves merged together in perfect harmony!

These girls are on a journey of constant exploration, hence my aforementioned diagnose of 'chronic curiosity'.. with their infinite passion for: "always seeking new impressions, eager to discover the trigger for our next idea.."

Despite their young age, Vera Kleppe and Åshild Kyte are two exceptional designers who's already made a name for themselves in the world of design. And with their nonstop exploration, their eye for conspicuous details and their never-ending curiosity, we eagerly await their next compositions..
